Guatemaltecos en Oklahoma is a nonprofit organization that focuses on empowering the voices of Guatemalans in Oklahoma! They organize cultural events, fundraisers and celebrate the wins of their fellow Latinos.
While working with them I have had the honor to design both their logo, and help out with some of the events they planned!
We wanted this logo to represent both the home country of Guatemala, as well as the state of Oklahoma. Eventually, we ended up connecting these two faraway places by using their respective birds. The state bird of Oklahoma, the scissor-tailed, and the national bird of Guatemala, the colorful The Resplendent Quetzal.
However, we went through serval versions of the logo before landing on this final version.
In the beginning, we wanted to use Oklahoma's already established colors and images in a blend with the Guatemalan bird. We even thought about make a sort of "pin point" shape using the shapes already used in Oklahoma's official marketing.
However, we decided to put more focus on the birds.
